Flying and gliding through the forest means animals can search for food over a larger area of the forest. This ability also allows them to escape from predators more effectively. Gliding animals have large flaps of skin that act like a parachute. Gliders include flying lizards, snakes, frogs and squirrels.
True flight is achieved by birds, bats and insects. These animals manage to overcome gravity by using their wings to push against the air and propel themselves upward and forward. Flight paths or tunnels exist through the tree canopy to speed their journey.
